The exception to the rule! Alicante is genetically linked to the hardy pioneer variety of Grenache, so it too is well-adapted to our warm Mediterranean climate. Because the flesh of this distinctive variety is bright red in colour, there’s no need for the skins and juice to sit together to extract the colour and flavour before pressing. Alicante is a variety which ripens with full flavour at low sugar levels, making an aromatic light red wine.

Rockford Wines was established in 1984 when it was founded by Robert O’Callaghan. The winery is a family-owned company using traditional Barossa grape varieties, with some vines dating back to the 1880s. Much of the winery equipment also dates back over 100 years. Arguably one of the leading producers from the Barossa Valley in Australia, Rockford is steeped in history matched by their legendary wines.  Truly iconic in their reputation, terroir driven, family owned, expressive in their vision and above all utterly delicious.

Tasting Notes

The Rockford Alicante Bouchet is an excellent reflection of the best of our Alicante - fresh, generous, aromatic rose-style wine that is lower in alcohol with cherry and strawberry flavours. It is best served chilled.
