Giant Steps Syrah Carignan Grenache 2020
Yarra Valley, Victoria – Australia
A medium-bodied red blend made from Syrah (88%), Carignan (6%) and Grenache (6%), all sourced from estate vineyards in the Yarra Valley. The fruit comes from Sexton and Tarraford sites, picked by hand and fermented separately with wild yeast. Each parcel saw different levels of whole-bunch and whole-berry fermentation, then matured in a mix of French oak barrels and large-format oak for 18 months. Bottled without fining or filtration.
This wine opens with aromas of dark berries, plum, black pepper and dry herbs. On the palate, it’s structured but not heavy—medium-bodied, with firm but fine tannins, fresh acidity and a clean, savoury finish. The Syrah gives depth and spice, the Carignan adds herbal lift, and the Grenache rounds out the fruit. It’s made to drink well young but can age a few more years.
No flashy oak, no over-extraction—just a solid, balanced Yarra Valley red with a Rhône-style approach.
