Tahbilk 1860 Vines Shiraz 2009
Nagambie Lakes, Victoria – Australia

Crafted from vines planted in 1860, this extraordinary Shiraz is a piece of living Australian wine history. The 2009 vintage reveals a deep, brooding core of blackberry, dark plum, and licorice, enriched by earthy undertones, black pepper, tobacco leaf, and finely integrated oak. With time in bottle, tertiary notes of leather, forest floor, and spice emerge, adding haunting complexity to its already layered profile.

Hand-picked from a tiny 0.5-hectare block of original, ungrafted pre-phylloxera vines, this wine is fermented in traditional open vats and matured in French oak for 18 months before long-term cellaring. It is released only after extended bottle aging, allowing the tannins to soften and the structure to fully harmonize. The result is a wine of immense depth, elegance, and longevity.
